Showit did some major work behind the scenes in 2024. Throughout the year, they quietly rolled out some platform updates that have been on my wish list for years!

In no particular order, here are my favorites:

1️⃣ Add video to a page from media library in MP4 format

In the past, the only way to add video to a page was first to upload it onto Vimeo or YouTube. This was time-consuming and sometimes presented an issue with broken links. There are still limits on the size of the video but having it hosted directly in Showit has made life a bit easier.

2️⃣ Multi-selection layer locking

This is a feature we’ve been begging for for ages! If you’ve ever developed a website from scratch, or even edited a template, you’ll know one of the biggest time drains is manually building every element to function properly.

Multi-selection now allows you to select every element at once and set the locking settings!

3️⃣ Preview blog pages with content before publishing

You can now preview a blog and see exactly how it will look on the site without actually having to publish it. One of the most common websites we developed last year was for blog-based businesses so this feature was a staple for us.

I’ll be honest – in my opinion, this update is still a work in progress since you still need to have a domain and blog connected and the “preview” button first takes you to the home page of the site and then requires you to search through the site to find the blog posting. However, I like the direction Showit is headed with this!

4️⃣ Adding element classes for CSS

A big one for my coding peeps! You can now customize element classes directly in Showit. This means no more searching through the code to see what the platform had already named the class. This makes customizing elements with CSS much easier and quicker.

5️⃣ Updated code editor

And finally, an updated and modernized code editor! Color changes, numbered lines, and more! This makes adding code much easier as it’s generally more what we’re used to seeing in coding platforms.

P.S. Did you know that you can check out what changes Showit has recently made on the platform via their Change Log?
